Grey Seal Coffee in Sheringham is a much-loved independent coffee spot on the North Norfolk Coast. It is popular due to its relaxed seaside atmosphere and expertly brewed coffee alongside fresh, locally inspired recipes. It is popular with both locals and visitors looking for a cosy place to unwind after a long beach walk or a day exploring the town. I visited Grey Seal Coffee after a stroll along the promenade and was very impressed. They have a nice range of fresh pastries and cakes, as well as different breakfast options. I went for a flat white with oat milk, which was absolutely wonderful.

The seasonality, the closeness to the sea, the place and the people; everything about it that has made it, in our eyes, a gem on the North Norfolk coastline. Tide & Earth is a popular independent coffee shop in Sheringham that doubles as a jewellery studio. It is loved for its unique blend of speciality coffee, sweet bakes, and their unique range of jewellery, which is displayed inside the coffee shop along with its workbench and sea glass by the bucket. I ordered a delicious chai latte which I thoroughly enjoyed while taking in the beautiful earthy surroundings in this special place. It’s the perfect place to sit and watch the people in Sheringham go by in a relaxed, peaceful setting.

The owner of Tide & Earth, Georgie, said, “Tide & Earth started as a handcrafted jewellery brand keen to connect with people through our love of jewellery, sea glass and the natural world. Started in 1998, Pungleperry’s has been serving delicious artisan gelato to Sheringham’s residents and visitors for years, so it’s safe to say they are true experts in their field. They sell homemade gelato, cakes, milkshakes, pancakes and much more with many sweet and savoury options all made on the premises.

Everything is homemade, which adds to the magic of this historic gem in Sheringham, and its success is proven by its recent expansion with a second branch in Cromer. I enjoyed a delicious scoop of my personal favourite, vanilla gelato, but was amazed at the range of unique gelato flavours.

It is impossible to list the best places to eat in Sheringham without mentioning Fat Teds Streat Food. It is a local, family-run business described as the originator of Sheringham’s street food boom and offers an adventurous take on street food, serving delicious dishes that are packed full of quirky ingredients, homemade flavour and punch. They serve a multi-cultural menu inspired by Turkish flavours, which is where one of the owners is from, and they are famed for their "Cem’s chicken burger", delicious chipotle chilli beef brisket and flatbreads. The family also has two mobile units, which do pop-ups, and they are available to hire.

Fraggie’s Trailer | best for breakfast

Image: @fraggiestrailer

Fraggie’s Trailer in Sheringham is a new, vibrant street food trailer serving healthy acai bowls. The trailer was born from the owner’s passion for serving amazing dishes and connecting with people, bringing vibrant flavours to North Norfolk. Every acai sorbet bowl is crafted from the freshest ingredients, covered in vibrant toppings such as strawberries, bananas, raspberries and kiwi, and a range of sauces such as Nutella, Biscoff, creamy peanut butter or honey. I can personally testify that these are amazing. I enjoyed mine, sitting on a bench overlooking Sheringham’s award-winning Blue Flag beach with the sun shining.

Kate, the owner of Fraggie’s, said, “What I love about Sheringham is the people. Everyone here is so kind, and there’s always someone to chat to as you go about your day. Starting up a business is beyond difficult, and without the support from my local community, I’m not sure I would have managed. My parents inspired me to start my business as they are the most hardworking people I know, so creating something that will give a little something back to the community that I love means a great deal to me. I’ve grown up working in hospitality and love being around people, so I knew it was the right business for me to go into.”

Good to know

  • Opening times: Open every day 8am–3pm (weather dependent)

The Crumble Crib | best for dessert

Four different flavours of crumble with different toppings.

Image: @crumblecrib

The Crumble Crib is a delicious dessert shop located on Gun Street in Sheringham. It is the sister shop of Winibees Bakery, which is also mentioned in this guide. It has quickly become a popular place for both locals and visitors who enjoy sweet treats, serving customisable apple-crumble-style desserts, and instead of a fixed menu, it offers a ‘build-your-own crumble’ experience where you can choose from a range of different options.

This lovely dessert spot went viral on social media, and for a good reason. I went for an apple crumble with frozen custard but was tempted by their rhubarb crumble, which I will try next time. Situated just a stone’s throw from the beach, it is a real coastal gem and arguably the best crumble in Norfolk.

  • Location: Crumble Crib, Gun Street, Sheringham, NR26 8BE

Guac and Mole | best for street food

Different Tex Mex dishes such as a burrito, salad bowl, tacos, burgers and more.

Image: @guacandmolemex

Situated on Sheringham seafront is the hit street food vendor, Guac and Mole. Serving a delicious Tex-Mex menu beside the sea with weekly specials and a fresh fruit slushie machine, it’s easy to see why this place is a hit with locals and visitors alike. It is a popular spot to watch the sunset while dining. I enjoyed a delicious chicken burrito and some nachos, which helped me refuel after a day exploring the town.

The owners of Guac and Mole, Tom and Catherine, said, “We live and grew up in Sheringham, and love the place for its mix of tradition and modern developments. We've always been keen to try and add something more modern, particularly to the seafront, and we had the opportunity come up from the back of the Covid pandemic and took the plunge. Despite being tough at times, we haven't looked back since.”
