The Holkham Estate is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and home to Holkham Hall, which sits proudly at the centre of the Estate with far-reaching views over the 25,000-acres of historic parkland and woodland. One of the region’s finest and most recognisable Palladian country houses and the ancestral home of the Coke family for more than 400 years. The grounds are ideal for cycling and feature many themed walks and trails, with bike hire available close to the courtyard, restaurant and gift shop. You can even take to the water on the lake during the warmer months of the year. Just outside the walls of Holkham Park is Lady Anne’s Drive which leads down to the wide-sweeping sands and big skies of the dog friendly beach, bordered by pine woods. You will also find yourself spoilt for choice when looking to eat out. The Victoria Inn in the Holkham village serves fantastic local, seasonal cuisine from dawn to dusk, whilst lunch can also be enjoyed at the Hall’s Courtyard Cafe or the Beach Cafe slightly further afield in Wells-next-the-Sea. Wells-next-the-Sea is a charming coastal town with its iconic beach huts and picturesque harbour where you can enjoy fresh shellfish or the catch of the day. Other delights nearby are Burnham Market and its sister villages, Brancaster, Cley-next-the-Sea and the town of Holt to name just a few.
We have visited Holkham for many years for family holidays so it has been lovely to actually stay on the estate. The setting is beautiful and tranquil and the Folly delightful. It is the perfect place to get away from everyday life. We look forward to returning soon.
We have stayed in this property before and will be re-booking for another stay, it is peaceful and within easy reach of the beach and other locations along the norfolk coast, the property is compact with the only cooking facility a toaster kettle and microwave, that suited our needs and we took along a slow cooker as we didn't want to mix due to health issues and covid situation. It was a lovely break in tune with nature.
Although we have visited the North Norfolk Coast many times, this was the first stay. We investigated Holkham and the cottage provided the perfect base for that. Perfect for a couple and all as expected from the descriptions and even in late May we made use of the wood stove, nice !
An idyllic retreat - the perfect break!
A really lovely time away from work and everyday life. Beautiful and utterly peaceful. Wonderful trees, birds and skies. All the space & huge landscape is therapeutic and comforting. The welcome hamper was very nice. We enjoyed cycling, walking and Holkham bay is an incredible beach which thankfully swallows up everyone who is also enjoying the beach. A great stay and will recommend to others. A wonderful sense of peace in this long nurtured landscape - friendly jays around the estate & a general openness sharing a historic gem that still lives in the present.
A wonderful (and much needed) escape from the 'real' world! We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the Folly - so snug and intimate (especially with the glass toilet door!!). We ate at The Anchor & The Hoste - taxis were a challenge but we got there in the end (although they may very well be driving The Estate trying to find their way out!). The deer on the Estate were magnificent and we loved hiking through the grounds and walking on Holkham Beach. We always love coming to Norfolk but this was a extra special experience. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
What a lovely place! And we really loved the park - esp the pheasants & hares, and oh, the wonderful deer! So many of them! And the amazing night sky - what a wonderful winter break! Thank you
