The Holkham Estate is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and home to Holkham Hall, which sits proudly at the centre of the Estate with far-reaching views over the 25,000-acres of historic parkland and woodland. One of the region’s finest and most recognisable Palladian country houses and the ancestral home of the Coke family for more than 400 years. The grounds are ideal for cycling and feature many themed walks and trails, with bike hire available close to the courtyard, restaurant and gift shop. You can even take to the water on the lake during the warmer months of the year. Just outside the walls of Holkham Park is Lady Anne’s Drive which leads down to the wide-sweeping sands and big skies of the dog friendly beach, bordered by pine woods. You will also find yourself spoilt for choice when looking to eat out. The Victoria Inn in the Holkham village serves fantastic local, seasonal cuisine from dawn to dusk, whilst lunch can also be enjoyed at the Hall’s Courtyard Cafe, The Lookout or the Beach Cafe slightly further afield in Wells-next-the-Sea. Wells-next-the-Sea is a charming coastal town with its iconic beach huts and picturesque harbour where you can enjoy fresh shellfish or the catch of the day. Other delights nearby are Burnham Market and its sister villages, Brancaster, Cley-next-the-Sea and the town of Holt to name just a few.
A little expensive for self catering. You need to add in about eating out to your costing of a break away!
A quirky place. Lovely and quiet. Puts you right in with the wild life, surrounded by trees. Wonderful. Excellent linen, very clean.
we really enjoyed the gate house but could i suggest an outside tape just so you can wash the dogs before taking them in the hse . just to keep it nice any tidy , also as there is an electrical point outside any chance of a hob for the kitchen thanks in advance
A great, tranquil hideaway with excellent access to lovely walks.
We stayed in South Lodge East last year and had such a wonderful time that we couldn’t wait to come back. The estate is as amazing as we remembered but Palmers Lodge was a big disappointment. The downstairs of the property was cold and damp in spite of putting the heating on. The bathrooms were grubby and cold. There were spiders and bugs everywhere. Our clothing smelled of damp. We were basically very uncomfortable -even the bed seemed damp. The welcome pack would have been more useful if it included a small loaf of bread and a pint of milk. I expected much more comfort from this property and I do not think it is good value for money.
A lovely place to stay - having the bedroom in the basement did not worry at all, and we and the dogs had the freedom of the huge estate.
A great stay in a unique building set privately within wonderful parkland. A great experience.
If you need peace and quiet Palmers Lodge is perfect, just deer, pheasants and rabbits for company. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay with great walks along the beach from Wells to Holkam. Our stay was in early March so still a nip in the air but on returning to the Lodge and the wood burner roaring away you couldn't ask for more. Lovely welcoming bag with lots of local produce and a bottle of Prosecco and two glasses waiting on the coffee table. Downstairs is an unusual subterranean set up but it works well and there is plenty of natural light via the glass roof above the hall section.
Unique property which was perfect for 2 with a small dog. Lots of great walks right on the doorstep. Quiet, peaceful setting in the woods.
Unique location which provides a secluded and peaceful respite from the outside world, whilst providing easy access to the magical Holkham estate and neighbouring coastline, countryside and villages.
