Gunthorpe is a small quiet, pretty village just a stone’s throw from the beautiful market town of Holt, a haven for retail therapy full of independent boutiques shops, cafes and galleries. Clare Cottage is six miles from the beautiful North Norfolk Coast, go on a seal trip from Blakeney Quay or visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trusts’ Cley Marshes Reserve for some brilliant bird watching. There are some stunningly beautiful beaches here too, try out Holkham or Wells-next-the-Sea, with their vast sandy spaces backed by dunes and pinewoods. Along the coast there are excellent pubs and restaurants who specialize in serving locally sourced food; needless to say there is super seafood, Brancaster Mussels and Cromer Crabs to name but a few. The historic cathedral city of Norwich makes a great day out; here you will find a huge selection of independent shops, theatres, museums and restaurants. Enjoy family days out at Pensthope Natural Park just a few miles away and seek out the children’s indoor and outdoor adventure play areas, lakes and wildlife along the way. There is plenty to do within easy reach of the cottage – come and explore!
House is lovely, and the owners have gone to enormous lengths to make the stay as homely as possible - so many games for the kids and practical stuff like wellies to use - well thought about. Would love to visit agian in the future, very peaceful location, but not too far from major days out in the area. Thanks for a lovely stay.
We’ve just arrived at Clare Cottage.. it’s absolutely beautiful... don’t think I’ll ever want to leave!! You’ve left everything we could possibly want, Happy New Year to you.
Thank you very much. We had a fantastic stay in Clare Cottage and it was the perfect base for our Christmas. We were all so impressed with the cottage and your warm and generous approach to sharing it. It was really clean and comfortable but also amazingly well stocked with books, games and equipment. We especially appreciated the effort made to make the cottage festive with decorations and homemade Christmas cake. It felt very cosy and welcoming. The children also loved the fields and stream, and were happy to have sand toys to borrow. We had such a brilliant stay. We really did make full use of the oven (including a ham from Rutland's which Great-Grandma is still telling everyone about) fireplace and the fields. Please pass on our thanks to Angela. It was so welcoming, warm and festive on arrival and we did notice she'd gone the extra mile. We have lots of lovely memories from our visit and have already recommended Clare Cottage to lots of friends. We will certainly book again anytime we need a base close to grandparents without overwhelming them! We had everything we needed and a lovely Christmas break.
On behalf of my family I would like you to know how much we enjoyed our stay at Clare Cottage. It was an annual event to gather our closest family together and share fun. Clare Cottage not only was presented in an excellent fashion but also ideally suited adults and children alike. The terrace was not only used for relaxing, it also became a castle or a magical kingdom. We know Norfolk well and enjoy its wide variety of coastline, terrain and activities with the beach being the main focus. The historical information and the local links added to our understanding and appreciation of Gunthorpe. Thank you.
The cottage was amazing, it felt huge. Considering we were a party of 8, the property felt really spacious. The lounge was big, with plenty of space to sit around the gorgeous log fire and the dining table sat all 8 of us which was fabulous. There was also a play room and a huge utility area. The grounds made for a perfect Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday morning. The back garden was split into 4 main areas: the left hand side of the house has a really amazing stone bench and table creation with views of the lovely flowers. The right hand side has a huge wild area with space around it, the children loved it because they could run around it, it acted like a track. The south of the garden was perfect for our games of Croquet and you could walk down to the bottom where there is a bridge and stream. It was perfect for playing pooh sticks! Then past the gate a huge field full of Mumma Sheep and their baby lambs. It was so amazing waking up and watching the little lambs bouncing all over the field.
