Short weekday and weekend breaks in a Norfolk self-catering cottage

A short break in Norfolk self-catering holiday cottage is a superb idea if you are looking to escape into the wilds, far away from city life. Sometimes a last-minute getaway or planned short break is all you need to relax, rejuvenate and invigorate yourself. For many of us, taking some time out of your weekly schedule to have a short break or a weekend break is all we need to give ourselves a treat, a change, and a reboot. Norfolk is about as rural as you can get, but it is still well-connected by rail and road, so although the contrasts are bold, the county isn’t that far away from the rest of the world.

Hideaway with your loved one for a romantic break at one of our cosy holiday homes or take your family for a surprise getaway to the forests and the unspoiled, natural coast. Alternatively, you could spend some time discovering the Norfolk Broads with the hire of a day boat from Wroxham or Potter Heigham. You can also let somebody else pilot the boat and take a paddle steamer through the reed channels or take a kayak or canoe to meander along the waterways at your own pace. There are some excellent pubs and restaurants along the water’s edge for some mealtime prospects. If you love shopping and history, you may like to head to the centre of Norwich, England’s second oldest city. Or if you like walking or birding, the North Norfolk Coast with its bird reserves and the coastal path is a wonder to discover. The Peddars Way and Marriotts Way are two national paths that cut across vast sections of this lush and level county - massively popular with visiting hikers.

A short break is never enough to see the whole county but there’s nothing to stop you returning for more quick getaways or even longer holidays. After your first trip to Norfolk you’ll understand why visitors return year on year, so why not browse our collection of holiday cottages? Many of our self-catering Norfolk properties offer an option for a short stay whether you are looking for romantic bolthole deep in the Fens, or a large farmhouse for a long weekend with friends and dogs, there’s so much accommodation to discover in our range.
