Docking is a pretty village that lies on one of the highest points in the county and acts as a great launch pad for discovering this hidden part of the north-west Norfolk countryside and coast. The village itself has a lovely 14C/15C church, St Mary the Virgin, a good pub, a great fish and chip shop and local stores. If you like walking you can access the Peddars Way, which lies to the west of the village and for history buffs there are three great houses to visit in the area at Sandringham, Houghton and Holkham, each with their own flavour and style. With some renowned restaurants in coastal villages such as Thornham, Brancaster, Wells-next-the-Sea and a Michelin star restaurant in Old Hunstanton there is plenty of fine dining to be had and you can walk it all off again with a brisk stroll on the fabulous beaches of Brancaster and Hunstanton, which stretch for miles when the tide is out. You can also find local bike hire, golf, sailing, seal watching and bird watching at RSPB Titchwell in the area and boutique shopping in the charming Georgian village of Burnham Market, which should not be missed.
