Description

South Lodge West dates back to 1847 and was designed by well-known architect, S. S. Teulon. After some years of disrepair, the lodge has been restored and once again stands as sentinel, along with South Lodge East (ref:2026), to Holkham Hall on the Holkham Estate. The perfect retreat for a wander down to the beach during the Summer months or to cosy up inside by the wood burner during the cooler climes. There’s a petite kitchen area with microwave, kettle and toaster otherwise encouraging you to enjoy the delicious and plentiful eateries of Wells, The Burnhams and beyond. Relaxing and switching off from the everyday is difficult to resist. If you’re feeling energetic, explore the far-reaching parkland that will be on your doorstep; ideal for long walks or cycling around the lake whilst the deer herd look on, with bike hire available on the Estate. The Holkham Estate is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and home to Holkham Hall, which sits proudly at the centre of the Estate with far-reaching views over the 25,000-acres of historic parkland and woodland. One of the region’s finest and most recognisable Palladian country houses and the ancestral home of the Coke family for more than 400 years. The grounds are ideal for cycling and feature many themed walks and trails, with bike hire available close to the courtyard, restaurant and gift shop. You can even take to the water on the lake during the warmer months of the year. Just outside the walls of Holkham Park is Lady Anne’s Drive which leads down to the wide-sweeping sands and big skies of the dog friendly beach, bordered by pine woods. You will also find yourself spoilt for choice when looking to eat out. The Victoria Inn in the Holkham village serves fantastic local, seasonal cuisine from dawn to dusk, whilst lunch can also be enjoyed at the Hall’s Courtyard Cafe or the Beach Cafe charming further afield in Wells-next-the-Sea. Wells-next-the-Sea is a lively coastal town with its iconic beach huts and picturesque harbour where you can enjoy fresh shell fish or the catch of the day. Other delights nearby are Burnham Market and its sister villages, Brancaster, Cley-next-the-Sea and the town of Holt to name just a few.

Reviews

Enjoyable & relaxing stay at the cottage. Our first visit to Norfolk will not be our last. Thank you.

Past Customer,

So nice to stay on the estate - Holkham. Our favourite relaxing place! Lodge has all required facilities for two people and very comfortable. Welcome pack was good but no butter for toasts or scones sadly. Great stay, looking forward to trying out the other lodges. Tour of the pack was fab and informative.

Past Customer,

Our third lodge at Holkham and a really enjoyable week with especially good weather (Palmers Folly for its position amongst the wildlife, South Lodge East for the kitchen and South Lodge West for the bathroom!). Thanks for another lovely bag of goodies, much appreciated and Thank you Marcel for the TV help. Best meal of the week at The Victoria. We hope to be back again.

Mrs Neil H,

What a lovely gem! Just what we needed for our anniversary weekend. The cottage is amazing and the rest of the holkham Estate a real bonus. Thank you very much!

Mr Nick D,

A beautiful place to stay in a wonderful location. We have enjoyed exploring the area and beach, have done lots of walking. Thank you so much for the delicious hamper which we have enjoyed, what a lovely touch. Best wishes to you all

Mr David G,

A wonderful haven of tranquility and architecture. The lodge is a sensitive conversion and we are delighted to have found it.

Dr John T,

I could not have asked for more of a perfect place to spend my 50th! The lodge has been so warm and cosy to return to after the most spectacular walks! Looking forward to returning already!

Higgins family,

Thanks to all those involved in preparing for our little holiday. We felt safe and comfortable. You could have provided slightly better weather but for end of October it was warm with only one really wet day! Congratulations to your various professional who have made a super job of conversion of the lodge - and to those design artists who fitted it out. Well done and thanks again!

Dr Arthur D,

Even the rain didn't stop us enjoying the lovely location in the beautiful grounds, what a gem of a place! Hope to be back!

Previous Customer,

What a magical place! We lived it despite Storm Alex! Some great runs around the Park and the Beach. The Walled Garden is special too. We'll be back, hopefully with a little sunshine next time!
