Hempstead is a small and pretty village just two miles from the picturesque Georgian market town of Holt. The ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle can be found in the adjoining village and you can also walk to Selbrigg Lake where the River Glaven rises. Surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Holt ridge, it is an ideal place to explore and is great for cycling, walking and birdwatching. This part of Norfolk is a draw all year round for its coastal landscape, much of which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Holt is just a short drive away and is the place to visit for unique boutique shopping, a great food hall, antique and art galleries and numerous restaurants and cafes. For railway enthusiasts why not visit the North Norfolk Railway with traditional steam engines that run along this glorious stretch of coastline.
