Self-catering holiday cottages in Cley-next-the-Sea

Birds, beautiful scenery and smashing coastal views await you in the unspoilt village of Cley-next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk coast. Our cottages in Cley are quintessentially Norfolk: pebble-dashed exteriors, cosy cottage-style interiors, beautiful gardens and the best coast and country views. There is a very good delicatessen, smokehouse, pottery, gallery, bookshop, a restaurant and two pubs, which serve meals, in the village.

Anyone with a passing interest in birds will tell you, Cley is a birdwatching mecca. All of the North Norfolk coast is good, of course, but Cley-next-the-Sea has that bit extra: a wide range of natural habitats for breeding and feeding, a prime position on bird migration routes, sensible and long-established farming practices and, above all, plenty of goodwill towards feathered creatures. You don’t have to be a knowledgeable twitcher to appreciate the Cley National Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre; there are plenty of books to look through, you can borrow binoculars, and you can enjoy a Danish pastry and cappuccino in the cafe whilst taking in the stunning views out to marshes – maybe spotting a spectacle flock of Brent geese, an avocet scything the mud or even a bittern if you’re lucky!

The windmill at Cley is one of Norfolk’s best-known landmarks, dating back to the 18th century, and we would highly recommend having dinner in its unique restaurant during your holiday. You also have a number of walking trails on your doorstep, notably Blakeney Point which starts as a narrow strip from Cley Beach car park before widening to marram grass-covered dunes opposite Blakeney Harbour. Other Norfolk towns and villages near Cley include Holt, Weybourne and Sheringham
