Norfolk Countryside and Villages visitor guide
A tapestry of fields, hedgerows and quaint villages harking back to a bygone era…
The Norfolk countryside is like something out of a children’s picture book – all hedgerows, village greens, winding lanes, woodlands, owls, hares and deer. The coast may be an obvious holiday destination, but it would be foolish to overlook our county’s rural splendour. Close to both Norwich and our beaches, the countryside offers ultimate conditions for cycling and walking including the Peddar’s Way, Marriot’s Way and Boudicca Way. It is also awash with historic market towns brimming with shops, cafes and locals going about their daily lives. Two of our favourites are Reepham - be sure to enjoy coffee and cake at The Dial House, and Aylsham – try your auction-house skills at Keys on a Monday and stock-up on delicacies from the Bread Source Bakery and Whites, recently crowned Britain’s Best Butcher. If heritage is your passion, add the National Trust’s Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall and Oxburgh Hall to your bucket list, as well as Castle Acre. Our rural properties also tend to luxuriate in spacious grounds and as such offer tennis courts, swimming pools and games rooms – making venturing from your cottage a tough feat in itself!
