Nestled in the picturesque market town of Harleston, Candler's Lane is sure to make you feel right at home as soon as you walk through the front door of this charming terraced cottage. This beautiful property in Harleston could make the perfect base for your next escape on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Set in the heart of the Waveney Valley, Harleston is a vibrant market town, filled with historic buildings and brimming with character. This holiday home is a property true to its market town roots, with decoration inspired by its heritage and adorned with touches to help you feel right at home here.
Perhaps you’re visiting Harleston to explore the wonderful heritage of Suffolk and Norfolk? Well, as a property bursting with heritage itself – this could well be the perfect place for your retreat. Mullion windows and leaded lights spark a connection with times once past, the panelled bathroom and William Morris curtains nod to the Victorian era this property came to life in, and the design and flow of the space evokes this properties connection to the adjoining much older and grander Queen Mary period house.
The large farmhouse style kitchen benefits from wrap around worktops and a large double oven nuzzled in an alcove. The red tile flooring in the kitchen adds the authentic charm, the beautiful wooden worktops mean you won’t be short of space when preparing home cooked meals, and the many kitchen cupboards ensure you have ample storage space for all your holiday treats - leaving little to be desired. The hub of this restful retreat is the delightful open living/dining space, perfect for those nights in or hosting dinner for family or friends. The owner has created a pet friendly pad which allows two four legged friends – there’s even a cover for the sofa provided (stored in the cupboard under the stairs). The dining space is complete with seating for 6 and there’s an effortlessly cosy sofa for restful evenings spent with your feet up watching a film. The TV is tucked away neatly in the built-in storage in the lounge area.
It’s not your average cottage with each room boasting an open and light atmosphere. The eye-catching bathroom is something to behold - wonderfully spacious with the addition of a walk-in shower. It’s restored tastefully to its former glory and even has genuine Victorian fittings! It’s a vibrant space, perfect for relaxing in style with a roll-top, freestanding bath. This home from home sleeps 4 guests and bedrooms comprise of one bedroom with super king bed which can be configured into twin beds (please let us know preference upon booking) and one roomy king bedroom. Both bedrooms benefit from a mix of authentic sash and leaded lights windows which allow you to soak up your surroundings. Light and airy rooms mean it’s a delight whatever time of year you choose to visit.
Tastefully decorated throughout and full to the brim with charm, this really is a delightful property which will leave you picturing times once past. There are traditional pine floorboards throughout the dining/living areas and in the bedrooms to really set off the rustic charm that this property radiates. There’s even a small courtyard, part decked and part stone, with bistro table and chairs for guests to enjoy the midday sun or an evening glass of wine. It’s a great spot to relax in after a long day exploring! This is an artist owned house with yet another special touch in that the stained-glass panel pictured was made by the owner’s father, who also has windows in the local church – what a lovely local legacy! We shared this lovely property with dear friends from the US who didn't know East Anglia at all and were keen to explore this wonderful area. Candlers Lane provided the perfect base. The property is much larger than we expected with high ceilings and quirky features which we loved. The decor was perfect - interesting, beautiful colours and comfortably furnished. The bathroom was excellent although the antique loo needed a bit of practise to get the flush right!! The courtyard garden was all that was needed and lovely to sit in, particularly in the mornings when the sun hit the space. We were extremely happy with everything at Candlers Lane and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Thank you so much!
A beautiful house with everything we needed. You can see an artists eye throughout the restoration. We loved it.
Property completey met our expectations. Beautiful interiors and wonderful old features. Equipped with everything we needed and perfect central location. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
Holiday property in a historic building, many original features in evidence; particularly impressed with the bathroom. Good location both for the Suffolk Coast and the Norfolk Broads. Harleston is a thriving market town, plenty of independent shops as well as those to buy your necessities
