If you don’t know this part of Norfolk you are in for a treat! The Broads National Park is practically on the doorstep of this property, Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Hickling Nature Reserve is at the end of Stubb Road. The nature reserve, a haven for wildlife, is open all year round. During the summer months, book one of the family activities or the daily water trails, and enjoy time away from the world along the marked trails and let the day drift away, don’t forget a picnic. A variety of water based activities including sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding and motor boating are all available at Hickling Staithe. The fabulous east coast beaches are also nearby and often underpopulated even in the summer months. Family friendly with soft sands, the beach at Sea Palling is less than 4 miles away and has been given the prestigious Blue Flag safe beach award this year. Iconic coastal landmarks such as Horsey Windpump and Happisburgh Lighthouse with its candy red and white stripes should not be missed and the resident seal colony at Horsey Gap is about as close to nature as you can get; if you are here in the winter months the new pups can be seen too. A series of quiet lanes that have been designated as rural roads for less traffic, abound in the area, which is great for walkers and cyclists alike and the cultural city of Norwich is worthy of a day’s outing to take in the culture, a bit of retail therapy and so much more.
The cottage is lovely! Thank you so much for the welcome pack and postcard. We went to see the seals at Horsey which was great.
We had a good time in an area not really known well to us. It was great to get away after 2020’s troubles and the cottage was very welcoming. The weather could have been better but that’s the UK for you. We both thought the cottage was excellent and happily recommend the lovely cottage to anyone visiting the area. We were very happy visiting the Greyhound pub at the end of the road and felt perfectly at ease in these Covid times. We enjoyed Winterton beach and dunes for the Norfolk big sky experience, the Bure Valley railway and particularly recommend the Barton boardwalk
We had a lovely holiday, despite the weather. The cottage is well equipped, lovely and warm and the welcome pack was impressive, thank you so much.
With all the issues of Covid it was a joy to at last arrive in Hickling for our stay in Sunset Cottage. First impressions were that the cottage was immaculately clean, well-furnished and comfortable. We were able to settle in quickly. We had hot sunny days and enjoyed local walks and trips for the first 5 days. The last 2 days brought torrential rain, gale force winds and a power cut, but we were very comfortable in the cottage with books. We loved our week in Sunset and hope to return.
Complements on your wonderful cottage and thank you for the lovely welcome pack, much appreciated. We’ve had a lovely week at Sunset Cottage and are already planning to come again next year.
Many thanks for making us so comfortable at Sunset Cottage. We had a really lovely week with good weather. We loved the food pack you left for us with all those goodies. We really enjoyed our stay at Sunset Cottage and hope to return next year with our friends.
Sunset Cottage provided us with all the comforts of home, it offered us everything we needed, from comfortable beds, a well fitted kitchen and bathrooms to a cosy lounge; it was perfect. An added bonus was having an enclosed garden. Whilst on our holiday we went on lovely walks from the cottage doorstep. Hickling Broad is close by while a walk down a country lane took us to a field full of sunflowers which was a surprise and lovely to see. We really enjoyed our first holiday at Sunset Cottage and hope to return next year.
Thank you for our lovely week at Sunset Cottage, we didn’t want to leave! The cottage is beautifully furnished and very well equipped; we had everything we needed for our week. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived which, in the current situation, put our minds at rest the minute we walked through the door. It was also nice to see that the garden has been so well taken care of. We found a great crabbing spot on the harbour wall at Gorleston-on-Sea where we had the most successful couple of hours catching crabs we have ever had!
Overall we were impressed with the cleanliness and high quality fittings and kitchen equipment. Thank you for your care in making sure we had such a comfortable and pleasant stay.
We have no hesitation in recommending the cottage as a comfortable base to anyone wanting a peaceful and relaxing break. This was one of the best breaks we have taken for many years, which I think was testament to both the quality of the accommodation and the location. The proximity of the Hickling NWT reserve is an added bonus.
What a gorgeous cottage in a peaceful and idyllic setting. We hope to be back once the Covid situation has passed.
Thank you for such a clean and comfortable cottage. It was lovely to return to in the evenings.
Great stay despite Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis on either side of our holiday! We’ve enjoyed the fire each night, lovely walks. Seeing the seals at Horsey beach is a must do!! Nature reserve at the end of the road is a nice walk too. Great area and lovely cottage.
