Food & drink
Norfolk has long been a favourite destination for foodies.
We are famous for a number of wonderful delights including Cromer crabs, samphire, Morston mussels, Stiffkey cockles, Binham Blue cheese, Norfolk turkeys and Brecks game.
A perfect option for self-catering would be to seek out one of the many Farmers Markets taking place around the county. This is where the countryside is brought to the town centre, giving you the chance to speak to the local people about their produce which will always be seasonal, fresh and local!
Another option would be to select one of the many fantastic cafes, pubs or restaurants that pride themselves on using local produce in their menus. This benefits the customers as the ingredients are fresher and usually tastier. It also reduces food miles and packaging and supports the local economy.
With Norfolk having such a splendid coastline, fresh fish is a favourite menu item in many of the eateries. Whether you prefer “fish of the day” from a fine-dining establishment or wrapped up in paper from a fish and chip shop, there is something to suit all.
You may like to prepare your own and I can guarantee you will be spoilt for choice with a number of traditional fishmongers to tempt you. Many of them fish daily and you often see them unloading their boats shortly before their catch appears on the counter. Now you can’t get much fresher than that!
With Norfolk having so many areas of outstanding natural beauty to take in and enjoy, why not have a picnic? We have so many award winning delicatessens offering Norfolk cheeses, homemade pickles, chutneys, jams, breads, cakes, tarts, pies and much much more. Why not treat yourselves, you’re on holiday!
Finally, to wash it all down, Norfolk is home to a number of excellent drinks companies. Panther Brewery, based in Reepham, The Norfolk Sloe Company, The Real Ale Shop near Wells who sell local beers, produced from the malted barley from their farm, Norfolk Cordial and Whin Hill Norfolk Cider all produce superb quality products using natural ingredients grown in our distinctive coastal climate.
