Walcott is an excellent location for a seaside holiday, with a sandy beach that stretches for miles along the coast and lies under Norfolk's huge skies that dominate the landscape here. There is a local village store, an excellent pub and a good fish and chip shop, The Kingfisher Cafe. The village name originates from the Celtic word Walecote, meaning village by the wood and although the woods may be long gone, there is much local history to discover in this part of the county. The village also lies along the Norfolk Coastal path and the walk to Happisburgh, with its iconic red and white striped lighthouse is certainly worth the effort. Venture north to discover Bacton Woods, a great day out with marked cycle and nature trails, visit the large seaside town of Cromer with its iconic pier and year-round shows, play a round of golf in Mundesley and take to the courts for tennis in North Walsham. To the south the local seal colony at Horsey Beach is an opportunity not to be missed. Inland, The Broads National Park with 125 miles of waterways to discover are within easy reach and the hinterland in this part of Norfolk also makes great cycling country. Culture vultures will enjoy a trip to Norwich, which makes a lovely day out.
