Kelling is a small village in a great location set along the coastal road that skirts the top of the county and lies between Sheringham (4 miles) and Salthouse (2 miles). Its reputation as a smuggling haven is no longer but the area has been one of military and historical importance in the past. The village reading rooms have now been turned into a small book shop, art gallery and tearoom and the area is great for walkers, birdwatchers and stargazers, surrounded as it is by both Kelling Heath and Muckleburgh Hill, within the Norfolk Coastal AONB. The Norfolk Wildlife Trusts' visitor centre (3.5 miles) at Cley-next-the-Sea (4 miles) is just a short drive along the coast and the marshes along this stretch of the coast attract year-round attention for their flora, fauna and wildlife. To the east, the charming Victorian seaside town of Cromer (8 miles) with its famous pier is a lively spot to enjoy a day out and the cliff-top walks, golf course and the climb up the church tower will keep everyone active!
