An inviting, 17th-century hideaway, this period cottage in Overstrand makes a superb base for anyone seeking to explore the North Norfolk coast. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom abode is well positioned within the village, just 500 metres from the sandy beach. Pick up the Norfolk Coast Path here and strike out in either direction. Venture 3 miles into Cromer to explore the Victorian town, wander along the pier and swim in the sea. Nostalgic Sheringham, 7.5 miles away, is smaller but has just as much charm. From here, you can board a steam train along the heritage North Norfolk Railway to the market town of Holt, 13 miles from the cottage. Visit the National Trust’s beautiful Sheringham Park, 8.5 miles away, or Felbrigg Hall, 4.5 miles away, with its parkland grounds. Plan a trip to Morston Quay, 17 miles away, to take a boat trip out to see the seals.
Head back to the cottage after days on the beach and visits to nearby beauty spots to find accommodation with a warm welcome. Arrive in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, which forms the heart of this retreat and is where you can prepare the tasty local produce you have sourced close by. Perch at the breakfast bar with a hot drink and a book. To one side is the dining area, where you can gather for more substantial meals, with the patio doors open to bring in the sunshine on fine days. Light the open fire in here during the colder months and dine in the flickering warmth. While away cosy evenings together in the impressive lounge, with its high, beamed ceiling and red-brick chimney breast housing the wood burner. Stoke this up as you recline on the soft seating to play games or watch TV. There is also a downstairs WC. Stairs lead up to the first floor from the kitchen, up to your two king-size and one double bedroom. These comfortable rooms have TVs and capture glimpses of the sea. There is an en-suite family shower room with access to one of the bedrooms. Another short flight of stairs leads up to a spacious king-size bedroom, which benefits from a private bathroom, creating a peaceful retreat for couples within the cottage.
Spill out into the enclosed garden as often as possible. Cook out on the BBQ and dine on the patio, while the children play on the grass. Parking for this cottage is on the street, subject to availability.
