This beautiful retreat, part of a small complex on the site of an old Benedictine Priory, is a lovely spot for a solo trip or couples’ holiday in south-west Norfolk. It’s surrounded by 25 acres of private land, and is a peaceful spot between days exploring market towns, historic streets and wildlife-rich wetlands. The picturesque village of Outwell (1.5 miles) has a shop and pub, with a cafe 2 miles away for coffee and something sweet. Head to Downham Market (6 miles) to browse its weekly market, then linger over lunch at one of the many cafes. Catch the train to King’s Lynn (19 miles) with handsome historic buildings and a Maritime Trail that brings its trading past to life. Ely Cathedral (24 miles) is well worth the trip, while nature lovers can spend time at Welney Wetland Centre (10 miles), watching birds from hides overlooking the Ouse Washes. For exploring further afield, simply hop on the train to Ely or London King's Cross.
On arrival, climb the external staircase to the raised decking and step through the glass doors into your welcoming accommodation. Comfy seating in the lounge invites you to put your feet up, perhaps switching on the Smart TV for an evening of easy entertainment. There’s a dining table for sitting down to meals, along with a breakfast bar in the kitchen with two stools – handy for morning coffees and planning the day ahead. After days out in the fresh air, freshen up in the shower room, with its large walk-in shower and WC, before retreating to the king-size at the rear of the property. Here, a second Smart TV sets the scene for lazy mornings.
Outside, you can dine alfresco on the raised decking, equipped with an electric BBQ for relaxed holiday suppers. Slip into the secluded hot tub for a soothing soak after a long day. Parking is available for two cars.
