Take a couples' or solo trip at this delightful wood-beamed home deep in the Norfolk countryside. The one-bedroom lodge is tucked away on a working farm in the quiet village of Beeston. It makes a lovely base for discovering some of the area's scenic spots and historic sites, such as the remains of an 11th-century monastery at Castle Acre Priory (9 miles).

Inside, it's a joy to spend time in the gorgeous open-plan living space, which has vaulted ceilings propped up by beams. There's a comfy lounge area for curling up by the wood burner and, a farmhouse-style kitchen for prepping your favourite meals. When everything's ready to serve, light a candle and tuck in at the wooden dining table. A king-size bedroom sits on a mezzanine level overlooking the lounge. Completing the interior layout is a ground-floor shower room. There's a welcoming outside spot, too - a pretty enclosed garden and patio where you can enjoy lazy breakfasts, sunny lunches or a peaceful evening drink as the day winds down.

There is a pub in the village (0.5 miles) and a friendly chippy in Litcham (2.5 miles), which also has a fabulous common where you can walk the dog through mixed woodland and heath. Spend a serene afternoon at Gooderstone Water Gardens (15 miles), where a maze of ponds, bridges and bird hides awaits. Alternatively, head to Holkham (20 miles) to discover sandy beaches, scenic nature trails and maybe even spot a few feathered friends before refuelling with a slice of cake at the café.
