The holiday cottage itself is absolutely lovely, particularly the location, and it clearly has the potential to be a wonderful place to stay. Unfortunately, however, the standard of cleanliness on our arrival was extremely disappointing and, quite frankly, unacceptable.
When we arrived, all of the bins were still full of rubbish from the previouRead mores guests. There were dirty towels in the washing machine, as well as dirty towels on the floor in one of the bedrooms. The bathroom had sand in the bath, which we had to clean thoroughly before we could use it. There was also sand throughout the cottage, including on the floors, which was immediately noticeable when walking around.
Overall, the cottage did not appear to have been cleaned properly between guests. It felt as though the property had received little or no attention before our arrival. For a holiday cottage, we would expect a much higher standard of cleanliness, particularly in the bathroom, on the floors, with regard to the towels and in the general presentation of the property.
It was also disappointing to find that the outside furniture was absolutely filthy. It appeared not to have been cleaned for weeks and was not in a condition in which we felt comfortable using it. This was particularly frustrating because we had some lovely weather during our stay and would have really enjoyed sitting outside and making use of the space.
We appreciate that sand can inevitably be brought into a property, particularly given its location. However, the amount of sand throughout the cottage, together with the dirty towels, full bins, unclean bathroom and filthy outdoor furniture, strongly suggests that the property had not been properly prepared for our arrival.
It is such a shame because the cottage itself is lovely, the location is excellent and it could be a fantastic place to stay. However, the lack of cleanliness significantly detracted from our experience. A thorough professional clean and much greater attention to detail between guests are clearly needed. Arrival Condition
When we arrived, all of the bins were still full of rubbish from the previous guests. There were also dirty towels in the washing machine, as well as dirty towels on the floor in one of the bedrooms. These issues should have been identified and resolved before the property was made available to us.

The bathroom had sand in the bath, which we had to clean thoroughly before we could use it. There was also sand throughout the cottage, including on the floors, which was immediately noticeable when walking around.

While we appreciate that sand can inevitably be brought into a property, particularly given its location, the condition of the outdoor furniture was clearly the result of inadequate cleaning and maintenance.
Impact on Our Stay
The lack of cleanliness significantly detracted from our experience. We had some lovely weather during our stay and would have really enjoyed sitting outside and making use of the outdoor space, but the condition of the furniture prevented us from doing so.
The combination of the dirty towels, full bins, unclean bathroom, sand throughout the cottage and filthy outdoor furniture strongly suggested that the property had not been properly prepared for our arrival. It was frustrating to have to spend time cleaning areas ourselves before we could comfortably use them.
Requested Improvement
We hope this feedback is taken seriously. The property requires a thorough professional clean and much greater attention to detail between guests. This should include emptying all bins, removing and replacing used towels, cleaning the bathroom and floors, removing sand throughout the cottage and thoroughly cleaning the outdoor furniture.
The cottage itself is lovely, the location is excellent and it could be a fantastic place to stay. However, the standard of cleanliness needs to be significantly improved to ensure that future guests arrive to a property that is properly prepared, clean and comfortable. Hide
