"The Old Bakery is a lovely, well-equipped cottage with everything you would need or expect. It is spotlessly clean but what makes it extra special is the warm welcome we received from the owners. They couldn't have been more helpful and had thought of everything - there was even a cake waiting for us! We would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing break within easy reach of both the North Norfolk coast and the Broads to book this cottage straightaway!" - Elen Oakenfull
Located on the southern edge of The Broads National Park in a glorious rural landscape, this is a perfect romantic couples’ hideaway for a relaxing holiday. Mautby is a small parish with the River Bure at its edge to the south. Head 1.5 miles to the banks of the Bure River and enjoy walks in either direction. Take a stroll around the village and look for the striking Mautby Marsh Farm Drainage Mill, built from red brick and designed to drain the marshes into the River Bure.
This cosy property on a single level is light and airy, whitewashed and has delightful pictures of flowers adorning the walls. The building retains a cottage feel and combines this with all the contemporary comforts that ensure this is a relaxing stay. There is an open-plan living and sleeping space across the ground floor. The living and dining area has a comfortable sofa to snuggle while watching your favourite box sets or movies on the Smart TV. This area leads to the kitchen, with everything you need to whip up romantic meals. When it is time to retire, there is a king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Outside, you’ll find a suntrap courtyard space with a bistro set and BBQ to make the most of the fine evenings and beautiful sunsets over Norfolk’s big skies.
Head over to the east coast and discover beaches with long stretches of sand that are often uncrowded, even in the summer. Wildlife lovers should head to Horsey Gap (12 miles) to see the local seal colony and the village of Happisburgh (19 miles), with its striking red and white lighthouse. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Garden (2 miles) and Caister Castle, with its car collection and the nearby Roman Fort, also make a lovely day out and are less than 3 miles away.
