Stylish decor cleverly combines high-quality modern furnishings with gorgeous period features - this chic cottage is an impressive holiday home perfect for couples and small families, and welcoming dogs, too. It’s located in the centre of the popular town of Wells-next-the-Sea, with the beach, shops and places to eat all on your doorstep.

Set over three storeys, this Grade II-listed cottage has an open-plan living space that includes a dining table for four plus a cosy lounge area boasting a Smart TV and a wood burner. This is just the spot in which to curl up with a good book or a favourite movie after a day spent on the beach or exploring the area. The compact kitchen has everything you’ll need for preparing tasty meals, and there’s an outbuilding with a washing machine and additional storage space. Take the steep and winding stairs to the first floor, where you’ll find a king-size bedroom and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Then it’s up another flight of cottage-style stairs to the second floor, where there’s a further king-size bedroom, with sweet sloping ceilings and more old beams, plus a shower room. Head into the rear courtyard, a sunny spot in which to enjoy a fresh breakfast from the local deli, a sundowner or an alfresco meal while enjoying the fresh sea air.

In the pretty lanes of Wells there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to savour, as well as delicatessens, butchers, fishmonger and boutique shops. Hop aboard the narrow-gauge steam railway to the abbey village of Walsingham, or head to Holkham, 2.5 miles, with its stately home, parkland and beach. Other delights nearby include Burnham Market and its sister villages, Brancaster, Blakeney, Cley-next-the-Sea and the Georgian town of Holt, all reachable within 13 miles.

A lovely location in the heart of Wells. Better suited for two people rather than four as the stairs to the top bedroom are extremely steep.

We were already familiar with the location of the cottage from previous visits and it is ideally situated on Staithe Street but the historic nature of the building does present challenges for guests. We parked in the main car park which cost an extra 44 per car and we had two. We were lucky to be able to unload by hovering in the Maltings parking bRead moreut could not stay there. The building is accessed from the rear and there is a small step into the living room which caught me out on many occasions. The stairs are steep and deep with a rope for a banister and there are two flights if you want to use the top bedroom. The furnishings are clean and comfortable but the mattresses are lumpy and soft. I ended up with back pain. The shower temperatures were difficult to regulate and we either scalded or froze. We also self-catered and found the small amount of crockery a bit limiting. This cottage is ideal for those who are able-bodied and enjoy historical surroundings - not so good for anyone a bit older or with back problems. Hide

We love the cottage and have stayed many times. The few niggles above are so easy to rectify and would make such a difference to the experience.

Very well located and generally comfortable property, perfect for local shops and eateries. A few maintenance issues with the property which we have reported back and which hopefully will be acted on.

We arrived at the property and our hearts sank. Access at the rear is by dustbins and round a seemingly derelict and run down area making outside space unusable. Back door into the tiny kitchen which is cramped and difficult to work in then into the dark and dingy living area which was not comfortable. The stairs were a shock, dirty, painted bare bRead moreoards with a rope for support ( the second flight actually lethal, only to be attempted by the very able bodied). Utensils were sticky, I had to wash the crockery and cutlery we used beforehand, the tea cloth smelt, the jars of coffee and sugar left were dirty and sticky and the contents looked as if they had been there for years. There wasnt even a dishcloth to wipe down the surfaces ( I went out and bought some). The whole place was cold ( warmer outside), very dark and depressing. We were booked for 4 nights but left after one night, we simply couldnt face staying any longer. Hide
