Property code: OC-RAILCA

Enjoying a secluded location in a large paddock surrounded by magnificent woodlands, this unique getaway makes an unforgettable couple’s retreat. Dating back to the Victorian era, the imaginatively repurposed railway carriage has been imaginatively and sympathetically updated to provide cosy, tranquil holiday accommodation for up to two guests. Featuring a wealth of original features including stained glass light fittings, authentic signage, brass fixtures and beautifully restored wooden floorboards, this characterful bolthole offers a quaint and relaxing retreat for rail enthusiasts, walkers, cyclists and nature lovers discovering a stunning part of the Norfolk countryside.

A couple of steps lead up through the train doors and into the accommodation. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner occupies most of the carriage, with dual aspect windows and plenty of original details. The lounge area has a Smart TV and comfortable seating so you can enjoy a favourite movie in the evenings. There’s a stylish and fully equipped kitchen at one end of the carriage, with the dining area at the other end, perfect for sharing romantic meals. The carriage also features a delightfully furnished bedroom with a double bed and an invigorating en-suite shower room. A couple of steps lead down out of the carriage and into the large south-facing paddock enclosed by post and rail paddock fencing. Here you will find a table and chairs providing a lovely relaxing spot to sit out on a summer’s afternoon and enjoy a quiet drink in peace.

The bustling market towns of Dereham and Fakenham (both 11 miles) have some fantastic shops, pubs and restaurants, or you could head north to Sheringham (13 miles) for a day by the sea. Other local attractions include Holt Country Park, Pensthorpe Natural Park, the Mannington Estate, East Bilney Lakes, The Bug Parc and Whitwell and Reepham Railway Station, all within 12 miles.

Lovely location ,very peaceful and pretty. Nice walks. But its not a secure site at all as dogs can get out and others peoples can get in under the fences. Beds lovely, fresh and comfy, shower nice and plenty of hot water .

The Railway Carriage is a great place to stay, loved all the fittings in keeping with its original use. We especially liked the art deco light fittings. It was comfortable inside with everything we needed for our stay. Very peaceful location with lots of wildlife to spot. The dogs really enjoyed the huge enclosed paddock to run around in (note Read moresmall dogs might need to be watched as they would get out under the fence bars). Also fabulous that there are off lead walks directly from the gate. Lots to do nearby, including sandy beaches that allow dogs all year which are just a short drive away. Added to our list of places to return to. Hide

I think that it should mention somewhere that if you are taking dogs there may be gunshots heard on a regular basis that may upset them if they are sensitive to that noise. Lovely accommodation and area but we had to leave after 2 nights (we booked for a whole week) because of the stress the gunfire was causing our dog-there were no set times as itRead more happened about 6am and then throughout the day up to late evening. Had it mentioned this somewhere on the accommodation details we wouldnt have booked it. Hide
