Ideal for families, this cosy cottage is located in a tranquil area and invites dogs to join you for a family getaway in the Norfolk countryside. Boasting a wood burner for the winter months and an enclosed garden for the summer, it’s a great escape all year round, with plenty of history and beauty to see on a walk around the village of Castle Acre.

Welcoming you into the property is the living room with a charming exposed stone wood burner at its heart. The kitchen is beautifully finished with pastel hues and pale wood inspiring creativity when cooking. Upstairs, the two bedrooms are tastefully decorated in calming colours, with a double bed in one room and a small double in the other. Both rooms share the family bathroom where long evening soaks can be enjoyed in peace. Step outside and you’ll find the mature enclosed garden, filled with evergreen shrubs, small areas of lawn and a shingle seating area paired with a BBQ for outdoor feasts.

The village of Castle Acre itself is full of interest, with 12th-century castle ruins, a 16th-century tavern and plenty of pretty walking paths right on your doorstep. Avid walkers should embrace the opportunity to join the Peddars Way from Swaffham (4 miles) and explore a stretch of the much-loved 46-mile footpath. Why not enjoy a taste of the coast during your stay? Starting off with the positives, the owner responded very quickly when we had a problem with opening the front door. The kitchen equipment was very good with plenty of crockery, cutlery and pots and pans. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The location is very nice and Castle Acre is a beautiful village with an excellenRead moret village shop. Less good was the layout, especially the kitchen and the cottage was very small considering the cost (much smaller than appeared in the photos). The pictures showed a dining table and chairs in the lounge, these were not there. Instead there was a fold up table and fold up chairs in kitchen which was very uncomfortable and when set up meant that you couldn't get into the cupboard under the stairs to get anything which was needed such as plates etc. The kitchen was very cramped and didn't have adequate work surfaces. A board was put over the hotplate to use as a work surface but this seemed to be quite dangerous and a possible fire hazard. As other people have mentioned getting the car into the car park through the arch was very difficult and we gave up and parked by the green. Hide

The photographs and description of the cottage were disappointing when on arrival you could be disappointed as we were. Access to parking was extremely difficult. However the enclosed garden was pet friendly.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced cottage in a historical Norfolk village which allows dogs - this cottage may be for you. It provides a good base from which to explore, and the village has lots to offer. If however you are looking for a pristine cottage with full amenities then maybe this cottage would not meet your requirements. ParkinRead moreg is hazardous and there isnt a washing machine. Garden and cottage are in need of general TLC, too - a thorough deep clean, lick of paint and an upgrade on the bedding would be my suggestions. If you can look the other way, with regards to these type of issues however, you can still manage to have a lovely holiday. Just manage your expectations for what is advertised as a 4 star property. Very sweet cottage, located in a really lovely village. Sadly we found the cottage hadn't been throughly cleaned. The back gate latch was not secure, which was a concern given it's a dog friendly property. The carport that you have to drive through, to get to the parking spaces, that comes with the cottage, is very narrow (we struggled with our estRead moreate car). The hoover didn't really work, despite us cleaning out the filter, which was jam packed with hair and dirt and held together by duct tape. The oven had dog along the inner seals and also within the glass panel of the oven door. The blinds in both bedrooms are very translucent when the morning sun shines through around 4:30am lighting up the whole bedroom. Lovely to have natural light, but a thicker blind would be better. We had to improvise by using two dark blankets in each room, to put over the blinds. The shed roof had caved in and very much needed to be repaired, as does the outdoor table top. There is no washing machine at the cottage or anywhere to hang wet coats etc to dry. Sadly we all felt there was several areas that need attention and maintenance. We were disappointed to find so many areas that needed obvious attention in a property listed with a large agent. We would recommend this property to friends if the areas mentioned and the additional issues I've mentioned directly to the owners, were resolved. Hide

The small cottage suited us as a couple. I think it would be difficult to fit in a family of four comfortably. It should be noted that entry to the rear of the property for car parking is through a narrow passageway, be minded if you have a large vehicle, negotiation of the passageway could prove difficult. Good sized beds and comfortable.

Robin's Nest is lovely and the location of Castle Acre is perfect - friendly with nice walks a convenient shop, chip shop and pubs. Close enough to the coast for days out and a the info provided gives plenty of ideas for how to fill your days if desired. The enclosed garden and hard floors make it great for dog owners - the stairs to the upper flooRead morer are from the kitchen and so the lounge makes a perfect location for them to sleep. Hide
