In the heart of the historic market town of Aylsham, this former 18th-century coaching inn is bursting with character, from brick chimneys to latched wooden doors. A great choice for families or groups of friends at any time of the year, it’s close to shops, pubs and places to eat, and only 10 miles from the coast.
This carefully renovated property, where you can see its history in the form of beamed, sometimes low ceilings, has been tastefully renovated and furnished in a traditional, country style. The charming kitchen is fully modern, and there’s a separate dining room in which to enjoy your meals. Afterwards, choose between relaxing in the lounge, which has a TV, DVD, music system and wood burner (a lovely feature in the cooler months) or the snug, which also has a TV and a sofa. At bedtime, head upstairs to find two high-ceilinged double bedrooms (one with an en-suite shower room) and two pretty singles with ornamental fireplaces, plus a bathroom with a shower over the bath. The property also has the use of a shared laundry room with a washing machine and a small, private courtyard with outdoor furniture for sitting in the sun and enjoying al fresco meals and drinks.
Aylsham is a thriving market town on the River Bure in the heart of the Norfolk countryside, home to the Bure Valley Steam Railway and just a couple of miles from Blickling Hall and Felbrigg, two of the county's well-known National Trust properties. If you feel like getting active, there’s an off-road cycling and walking path which follows the old railway line on the edge of the town, while the sandy beaches of Cromer and Sheringham are only 11 and 15 miles respectively.
