The Norfolk Coast Path begins on the promenade here; below it are two main areas of beach – the one nearest the town is mainly made of shingle and boulders leading into the sea, while just to the north, Old Hunstanton has a vast expanse of fine, golden sand when the tide is out and iconic pink and white striped cliffs, formed from a combination of Norfolk carrstone and white chalk. Take the coast road and 12 miles west are the trendy boutiques and eateries of Burnham Market; 9 miles south is Sandringham, the Royals’ much-loved country retreat, and its 243 acres of parkland.
