The Wonderful World of Woodforde’s Brewery

Written by Georgia Dawson on

Woodforde's Brewery, Norfolk

When travelling to our hidden gem of April, Salhouse, paying a visit to Woodforde’s Brewery is a must. Woodforde’s Brewery has its very own pub right next door, the Fur and Feather, so after learning about how the beer is made, you can enjoy a glass in the sun.

Woodforde’s Brewery is located in Woodbastwick, just a stone’s throw from Salhouse. Surrounded by fields near the Norfolk Broads, there is no place more peaceful and relaxing to enjoy a drink in the summer sunshine. It’s even better to know the alcohol has only travelled metres rather than miles – it really is the definition of local beer.

Woodforde’s Brewery thrives on providing fascinating tours. It really is interesting to find out the process, from beginning to end, and how the beer ends up in our glasses at the end.

When first arriving for your tour, you will be greeted by the charismatic and knowledgeable staff of the brewery. You will then be shown the beginning stages of processing the malt in the mash tuns. The smell of hobs and barley floats through the brewery as you learn about the malting, fermenting, conditioning and packaging, and all the stages in between. The tour ends with the opportunity to pull your own pint at the sampling session.

After your tour, why not pop into the Fur and Feather for a pint of your favourite brew. Choose from the hearty, locally-sourced meals available and enjoy a selection of the brewery’s draught beers on tap. When a bit chilly, you can enjoy your delicious food and brew inside the cosy, traditional pub or when a little warmer, outside in the glorious summer sunshine.

Before you leave, make sure to pop into the gift shop on site. Have a browse of the various beers and ales on sale, as well as the selection of spirits and liquors too. Treat yourself to a souvenir from your fantastic Woodforde’s Brewery tour.

Brewery tours run from Easter to Halloween and start at the convenient after-work time of 6:30pm. The tours cost just £15 per person and that includes an amazing 15% discount in their gift shop. The tours run for an hour and this includes a tasting session and the chance for you to buy yourself a bottle. For this tour, you must be over 18.
