Meet our Champion for Christmas Norfolk

Rob Morton

Director at Morton’s Traditional Taste Ltd.

We run a small family farm in North Norfolk where we produce free range poultry and smoked meats. Our busy times are when our day-old turkeys come into us in early June and then of course Christmas time when we prepare all our free-range bronze & Norfolk Black turkeys for our customers to collect from the farm or have them delivered nationally.

What gets you up in the morning?

Normally the turkeys who want to be let out for their early morning roam around the orchards, but honestly, just living on the farm and being able to enjoy all its benefits, having grown up on the farm I want to grow our business so that my children can keep the farm in the family for future generations to come. Who knows what the future holds!

Imagine you are speaking to someone who has never been to Norfolk.  How would you sum up Norfolk in one sentence?

Slow you down … you’re in Norfolk now, enjoy the beaches, local beer and fine food we have to offer, and you won’t be in any hurry to get home.

Norfolk has a 93-mile coastline.  Which is your favourite beach and what is so special about it?

I guess Cart Gap at Happisburgh, mainly because I have been going there since I was a toddler, we meet up with some family friends from Suffolk there every year and the children just seem to love the simplicity of it all.

Where are we most likely to find you enjoying a meal with friends and family?

The Recruiting Sergeant at Coltishall, we love it there. Great food, local beer and excellent service from the owners Matthew and Nicola, you couldn’t get a friendlier place to enjoy a meal out.

If you visited one of the many Norfolk farmers markets, what goodies would you fill your basket with?

I am often drawn to farmers markets to see what wonderful food is on offer, how big is my basket? I love the local cheeses from Mrs Temples farm & Norton’s dairy, the salami from Marsh Pig, some chutney from Candi’s chutney and a pork pie from Bray’s Cottage for the journey home, I guess in a way a Norfolk ploughman’s lunch.
