Wild about the Wensum

Published: Friday 1st May 2015

Last weekend Pensthorpe Natural Park, near Fakenham,  held their annual ‘Wild about the Wensum’ event. The event is held in the park, and along with the usual attraction’s there were also stalls selling nature related items, crafts for children, as well as some food and drink stalls. There was also a special celebrity guest! Radzi Chinyangnya who is a children TV presenter could be seen walking around helping children with craft activities.

The park itself was beautiful, even on a slightly grey day, there are many varieties of birds to see, my children particularly loved looking at the ducks, flamingos and avocets. The park is really nicely set out, with not too much walking for little legs, but at the same time it is spread around enough that on a particularly busy day you are not packed in like sardines!

The other attraction that makes Pensthorpe perfect for children is the amazing outdoor play area, it is truly magical, with a shallow stream meandering through, a huge sandpit, lots of climbing frames, swings etc and possibly the largest slide I have ever seen, my children easily passed a couple of hours here and could happily have played longer. The park is in the process of building an indoor play area which is due to open next month, I feel this will really add to the park as there isn’t much to do inside, so this will be perfect for days when the weather forecast is uncertain! There is also an observatory room with binoculars (including child sized ones!)and a café (which I’m reliably informed is very good!)

Pensthorpe is definitely worth a visit, with something for all ages.
