A Perfect Evening In Holt
Wednesday evening saw one of the highlights of the Holt social calendar – the Christmas Lights switch-on.
Our reception office had been festively decorated by Laura during the day in readiness for the open evening to which homeowners had been invited, so, leaving my colleagues Heather, Liz, Linda & Joanna to host it, I set out to join in the fun.
The actual switching-on of the lights was capably handled by Jake Humphrey but on a perfect autumn evening there was also so much more going on to enjoy. There were reindeer for the children to pet and stilt-walkers in outlandish costumes inviting small tots to ‘high five’ them whilst holding their hand up at least 10 feet off the ground. I saw one pretending to try to dodge out of the way of a couple of older ladies before making them duck to go through his legs. There were elves chatting to passers-by in high squeaky elf-voices, there was live music, singing, fireworks and several stalls selling burgers, hot dogs, mulled wine etc.
Lots of the shops and businesses were open and the town centre was heaving with couples, families and groups of friends all enjoying the very special atmosphere. The pretty twinkling lights created a magical feel and all in all it was a very enjoyable evening.
A suggestion for anyone who has a couple of days or so annual leave left to take before the year end – have you thought about a short break at one of our cosy cottages for two? Norfolk has so much to offer all year round with stunning countryside & coast, pretty villages and plenty of local wildlife and at this time of year there are the seasonal attractions such as Christmas shopping in Holt & the famous Thursford Christmas Spectacular Show, to name but two - what more could you want?!
