Active Fakenham

Not sure about you, but I find it sad that the Commonwealth Games are now over. I love watching all the variety of sports, the determination of the competitors and the feeling of being inspired to maybe have a go at a sport I’ve never tried before… 

Well…… if you’re heading to North Norfolk between 16th – 24 August 2014, Fakenham are holding nine days of fun and well-being activities for all ages.

“Get Active” is a great way to try something new and have fun with all the family. I can’t promise you’ll get a gold medal, however if you take part in any three activities you will, receive a trophy!Here are just some of the events taking place...

Saturday 16th August 2014Fun Runs Round Fakenham Race Course. Starts at 11am, Stalls, food, face painting, bar, raffle, bouncy castle. All ages welcome.

Canoeing and Kayaking. 1pm – 5pm. Have a go at kayaking and canoeing on the beautiful river Wensum. Free event.

Sunday 17th August 2014Fakenham Sports & Fitness Centre, Open Day. Free Zumba, Badminton, Table Tennis, all day Gym Passes. Book in advance.

Monday 18th August 2014Ladies Sword Class. 7pm – 8pm. Gentle introduction to Samurai swords (wooden!) good all round exercise.

Ju-Jitsu. 8pm – 9pm. Introduction to various Martial Arts, suitable for all ages over 7, families welcome.

Wednesday 20th August 2014Football. Bring out the skills, you just know are there. Ages 10-16, 6pm – 7pm. 17+, 8pm.

Thursday 21st August 2014Netball.  Not played since school? No problem as all abilities welcome. Join this friendly group of ladies. 7pm – 8.30pm. 

Friday 22nd August 2014Summer Ceilidh / Barn Dance. 8 pm – 11pm. Family friendly fun dance with music from the band.  

Saturday 23rd August 2014Fakenham Food Festival & Fair. 11am – 5pm. Food & craft stalls, children’s activities, live music, demonstrations. Procession starts at 1pm.

It’s a Sporty Knockout. At the Fakenham Fair. Mixed teams for a family fun sports competition.  Also games from 3.45pm.

Sunday 24th August 2014Fakenham Fifty.  Enjoy a cycle ride through North Norfolk with distance from 14 to 75 miles.

With other events to take part in including yoga, line dancing, rambling, aqua fit and Balkan dancing there really is something for everyone, so why not have a go?? They may not all be sports held at the Commonwealth games but you never know you could be heading to Australia in 2018!
