January has to be the most depressing time of year to have your birthday. Everyone is skint after the excesses of Christmas, the weather is generally bleak and the nights are long and dark! With this is mind hubby decided a much needed relaxing stay in a hotel was in order for my special day.
We decided to stay at The Kings Head in Great Bircham. Not too far from home but far away enough to feel that we’d ‘been away’. On arrival we were immediately upgraded to a larger room, with a huge bed and stylish soft furnishings. After a stroll around the pretty village, with views across the fields to Bircham Windmill, we were treated to the five course taster menu. This was excellent as were the two hearty breakfasts and the next evening’s dinner during our stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly and made sure we had everything we required. The only down side to our stay there was the emptying of the cess pit outside on the morning of our departure: a whiff to ensure you ran to the car rather than stroll!!
A bracing walk on Hunstanton beach on the Sunday morning enabled us to burn off the extra calories we had indulged in and also raised a chuckle when we saw a chap running along with no less than seven dachshunds at his heels. The beach is vast and beautifully unspoilt. Hubby had to give me a piggy back over the deeper stretches of seawater.
My birthday pressie – you’ve guessed – new wellies!!
