I have just discovered it’s National Sausage Week!!!

Our home county of Norfolk is a fantastic part of the UK and home to some of the best pig farmers in the country, producing some of the best pork in the world.

So I thought I’d let you into a little secret and inform you of some of the top butchers for you to go to and get your sausages…….

A massive good luck by the way, to two of our Norfolk butchers as they have just made it to the finals for a top national title in The Meat Trades Journal, for “Butcher Shop of The Year 2013”The two selected are Archer’s Butchers on Plumstead Road in Norwich, they have been established since 1929, their pork is from the famous Blythburgh farm, featured in many newspapers / television programmes as an example of providing the best conditions for their pigs. The second butchers selected is M&M Rutland, a traditional, well respected family run butchers situated in Melton Constable in North Norfolk and SEVEN time winner of the EDP  Butcher of the Year award.

Other butchers I could recommend include G.F White which is a traditional family butchers in Aylsham, all their sausages are made on the premises and tied in the traditional way using natural casings. J&D Papworth is another excellent traditional Norfolk Butcher, selling quality meats from their own farm. They have retail shops in Swaffham, Fakenham, North Walsham and Sheringham.

I have to admit I hadn’t realised how many different varieties you can choose from when selecting sausages as I tend to just go for traditional pork,  but looking at G.F White butchers website for instance it includes over 25 different varieties including pork/tomato and basil, pork/leek, pork/cranberry and even venison and red wine when in season.

After all that talk of sausages, think I’ll be having toad in the hole for dinner tonight and of course will be following a certain Norwich City Football Club shareholder's recipe.....
