The Gunton Arms

I’m a greedy person by nature – I’m sure my colleagues here at Norfolk Country Cottages would agree with this!
One of my favourite places to eat is The Gunton Arms in Thorpe Market near Cromer, which is situated in a stunningly beautiful, thousand acre deer park. It was purchased by its current owner, Ivor Braka, a few years ago and he has completely renovated it to its present stately home style grandeur. I think you could call it a ‘marmite’ destination due to the addition of eclectic art displayed throughout the restaurant, bar area and loos (Ivor is an art dealer). Tracy Emin is one amongst many artists on display with some pieces proving to be talking points that can challenge the guest’s views and opinions.
The food is locally sourced whenever possible, they have their own venison, the mussels and Cromer crabs are caught by local fishermen. Stuart Tattersall, the head chef/manager is often found cooking delicious cuts of venison or beef over the open fire in the Elk Room. The portions are very generous and the quality of ingredients is excellent. I can highly recommend pork crackling to nibble over a pre-dinner aperitif and the hanger steak with baked bone marrow –yum!!
