Homeowner Lunch

After arriving early to an extremely dark, wet and windy racecourse on Sunday morning and getting thoroughly drenched just from the car park to the Prince of Wales stand reception we were all wondering how our 11th homeowners Lunch event with 100 guests due to arrive shortly would work out.

A guided tour around the racecourse led by the knowledgeable David Hunter looked unlikely to happen and a backup plan of just staying indoors to listen to his speech may have to take place….. However I am pleased to say after all hands on deck to get everything ready and set up, by the time 12 o clock came and everyone started to arrive we looked outside and were welcomed by a completely different and wonderful day.

The sun was shining, not a rain cloud in sight and feeling quite mild. So after everyone had got settled in and had a cup of tea or coffee, the guided tour could take place. David Hunter the CEO and clerk to the course entertained us with a fascinating insight into the workings of the course. Did you know that when jockeys are weighed everything is weighed bar the whip, helmet and breast place?

Once the tour was over we all headed upstairs to a wonderful restaurant layout with large round tables overlooking the racecourse, the wine was flowing and everyone in good spirit and as we were at the racecourse we had decided to go with a horse theme and named all the tables as famous horses, we also had a fun quiz for each table to take part in with lucky dip prizes and I am pleased to say everyone took it very seriously and I don’t think too much cheating took place! The food was fantastic, the chocolate & cherry roulade to die for!

The service was friendly and professional and everything seemed to flow smoothly as they had everything in control. After coffee Heather gave an excellent speech thanking everyone for attending, also homeowners and staff for all their hard work and support in the company and finally informing us of the all-important quiz results….

Well done Annabel and her team Gainsborough for winning, very closely followed by Moira and her team Black Caviar in second place. So an excellent time was had by all. Was lovely as always to speak to our homeowners and a chance for them to meet each other and swap stories and advice. We have already had some lovely comments from people who attended to say thank you and how much they enjoyed it, which are always wonderful to receive.

Fakenham Racecourse is an excellent venue ideal for weddings, private parties and more and we would all highly recommend it. Also regarding the racing this year’s season starts on Friday 25th October and there is National Hunt racing all through the winter where the going is good to soft. It is one of the few racecourses in the country where you can observe the horses at every point of the course which is a mile round and has the Prince of Wales as its Patron.

Finally thank you to everyone who attended it was a great success and we all look forward to next year, first job finding another excellent venue!
