Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden
Who doesn’t love the great English cup of tea with a nice piece of cake and a catch up with a friend……
Now according to a recent article in the Sunday Express, Norfolk’s very own Fairhaven Woodland & Water Gardens in South Walsham has featured as being in the top ten best tea rooms to visit in the country.
So all in the aid of research of cause, I decided to head over there and try it for myself and pleased to inform you I can now highly recommend the homemade cheese scones. Yum yum.
However there are lots of things to choose from, with much of the ingredients being sourced locally. The menu includes soups, baguettes, jacket potatoes, ploughmans and a selection of pastries so think I will be having a return visit very soon!
Also what I think is fantastic about this tea room is that it is set in a secret hideaway in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, with a unique water garden and woodland walks that cover 131 acres which is rich in wildlife so there is always something new and interesting to see no matter what time of the year you visit. Look out for the 950 year old oak tree, home to 240 species of insects and one tawny owl. The area is so stunningly beautiful and I particularly enjoyed taking the relaxing boat trip down the river to the historic ruins of St Benet’s Abbey.
I also see there are a number of events happening throughout the year, coming up on Saturday 12th October 2013 you can forage with fungi expert Dr Tony Leech and then the following week on the 19th they are holding a practical workshop titled Fungi Photography. (Booking is advisable for these events.) If you are looking for Halloween ideas, they are advertising a Halloween party on Thursday 31st October 2013which looks like great fun with a haunted trail around the garden, live music, children’s entertainers, hot dog & candy stalls and a grand finale firework display.
So If you are in the area I would strongly recommend visiting, if not…… here are a number of fantastic properties we have in the area you could book a stay and then visit!!
