We are proud that all our cottages are graded to the standards set out by VisitEngland. In this way all properties are inspected every 12 months to ensure that the grading is meeting the standards of the National Quality Assessment Scheme. We hope that you find this useful in helping you choose the cottage that is right for you. To help you understand the rating structure please read on…

Rating structure

3 Star - The property will be well presented as above and offering a good to very good overall standard of quality with equipment and furnishings in a comfortable and good condition with sound quality. A good standard of maintenance and condition should be evident and bed linen should be offered in the cost of the holiday or for a hire charge.

4 Star - The property will be well presented as above except all bed spaces will be in bedrooms unless advertised as a studio. Accommodation will offer a very good to excellent overall standard of quality with equipment and furnishings presented in a comfortable and very good condition, in full working order and well maintained. Bed linen will be included in the cost of the holiday and towels will be offered in the cost or for a hire charge.

5 Star - The property will be presented as above and all bed spaces will be in bedrooms. Accommodation will offer a very good to excellent overall standard of quality. Equipment and furnishings will be of high standards in the overall fabric of the building, internally and externally, together with excellent standards of management efficiency and guest services. The property will have a degree of luxury and should provide at least two of the following items: tumble dryer, telephone, CD hi-fi, video or DVD player.

Gold Award - The Gold Award is awarded to properties which achieve some of the highest percentages in their star ratings, recognising the level of standard.

Awaiting Grading – these are new properties that have committed to the grading scheme where grading has not yet taken place. They will have been visited by our own team and should you require information on the anticipated grading please do give us a call.

VisitEngland Specialist Grading

In addition to the main VisitEngland grading, the Welcome Schemes recognise properties which provide extra facilities and amenities for Pets, Families, Walkers and Cyclists.

Pets welcome

For pet owners that want to take a pet with them on holiday, the Welcome Pets scheme will give pet owners (dogs, cats and small birds) the confidence that they are booking quality accommodation that meets their pets particular needs.

Specific requirements:

- A water and food bowl provided for each pet accommodated

- A scoop and disposable bags & litter tray (if cats accepted) to be provided

- A dedicated bin for waste disposal

- Pet washing facilities available, bucket, hose & towel

- Storage space for pets transportation crate, cages

- Local Vet details

- Where dogs have free access to garden areas then suitable fencing should be provided

- Where hazards exist for pets, safety equipment to be provided and procedures to be in place

Families welcome

This scheme will give families the confidence that they are booking quality accommodation that meets their particular needs.

Specific requirements:

- Cot & Highchair to be available on request where under 4s are accommodated. It should display a kitemark or CE mark

- At least 2 of the following to be provided Children's books, toys, dvd/videos, games and Channels on TV

- Child & family friendly information to be available, such as, restaurants, local activities, parks, suitable walks, events, shopping, nappy recycling, etc

- Where pools, ponds, and other water features are accessible to guests, clear & prominent signage detailing danger must be displayed to ensure child safety at all times

- Where outdoor gardens & equipment are accessible to guests, clear & prominent signage detailing danger must be displayed to ensure child safety at all times

- Where open fires or wood burners are provided then a suitable fireguard needs to be provided

- Where any additional hazard exists for children, safety equipment must be provided and/or procedure in place

- Details of nearest doctor, dentist, 24 hour A&E and all night chemist

Walkers welcome

Developed with expert advice and support for the Countryside Agency and the Youth Hostel Association, this scheme is designed to give walkers the confidence that they are booking quality accommodation that meets their needs.

Specific requirements:

- A separate space available for drying outdoor clothing and footwear overnight

- Boot scrapes at main doors and/or access to facilities with water supply

- First Aid kit to be provided

- Maps & books available for reference on walking in the area, details of local routes & organisations

- Information on local shops, banks, post office and outdoor shops

- Information on local public transport

Cyclists welcome:

Developed with expert advice and support for the Countryside Agency and the Youth Hostel Association, this scheme is designed to give cyclists the confidence that they are booking quality accommodation that meets their needs.

Specific requirements

- A separate space available for drying outdoor clothing and footwear overnight

- Lockable undercover area for bicycles, with an unobstructed entrance

- Access to a water point for washing bicycles & outer garments

- Emergency cycle & puncture repair kit

- First Aid kit to be provided

- Details of at least 1 cycle hire outlet, cycle repair & spares shop

- Maps & books available for reference on cycling in the area, details of local routes & organisations

- Information on local shops, banks, post office and outdoor shops

- Information on local public transport
