Sheringham

My favourite place has to be the North Norfolk Coast, and in particular Sheringham.

I was actually born by the Suffolk Coastline, a beautiful little place called Covehithe, a few miles from Southwold. Unfortunately the sea has eroded away that particular area, like many other spots along our ever changing coastline.

I moved from Covehithe to Sheringham in 1974 and instantly fell in love with the town, especially its close proximity to the sea, and now would not want to live anywhere else in the world! The beaches here are lovely and great for the children in the summertime. However, my favourite time has to be in the winter; wrapped up warm against the elements, taking a long walk along the cliff tops, past the golf course and on to Weybourne, or along the prom as far as the Lifeboat Station. This is open during the summer months and well worth a visit.

Sheringham is a great little town, with some lovely places to eat and of course the customary local fish and chip shops. In my opinion the best way to satisfy a well earned hunger after all that walking by the sea.

Sheringham also has one of the few steam railways left in the UK. It is approximately 5 miles long and runs from there through Weybourne to Holt regularly. It is fondly known locally as 'The Poppy Line', and is a great attraction for holidaymakers.
