Heather's Favourite place - Thetford Forest

As a family we have enjoyed many days out in Thetford Forest. It is one of our favourite places and has a great deal to offer families. It is split into many different areas with each area offering something different. It has some superb cycling and walking in a natural environment, which is completely traffic free.

We particularly enjoy the Black Mountain Bike Route at High Lodge. This is serious off road mountain biking and OK we may not be in the Lakes, but don't believe them when they say Norfolk is flat! My sons love this, the muddier the better. It offers steep gradients with some great drop offs (excuse the lingo) on mostly narrow rough tracks. Be warned you will be ravenous by the end, pleasantly tired and longing for a hot soak.

High Lodge also has "Go Ape" which is highly recommended. A high rope course in the treetops, however you do need to be over 10 and the minimum height spec is 4ft 7ins. All under 18's need to be accompanied by an adult, to deter the would be Tarzans, no doubt. Be warned it is best to book. High Lodge is a great day out for families of all ages and is an excellent place to enjoy a picnic lunch. Thetford forest has a brilliant range of activities, which will appeal to all age groups.
