The White Horse

There was a time when The White Horse presented an altogether more austere appearance, its once bland face masking the natural beauty of its enviable location. Not any more. In recent years, the place has changed almost beyond recognition. Sympathetic development and decor conspire to present a building in harmony with its seaside setting, pastel shades of white and blue blending with flint walls, studded with nautical ornaments, from model boats to wickerwork baskets. It’s a style that might be loosely described as quaintly modern. And it extends beyond the look of the place. The youngish restaurant staff, friendly and helpful, appeared amiably idiosyncratic, even, at times, amusingly eccentric. More Scooby-Doo than the Ritz. And the food? Well, it was all we could have hoped for, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. For the most part we played safe, with the accent heavily on seafood choices (well, when on the coast...)
