Lynn Museum
Description: Lynn Museum contains objects that show 4,000 years of West Norfolk life! Situated in a Victorian non-conformist chapel, Lynn Museum has extensive local history, archaeology, natural history, fine art and industrial collections. The displays feature hands-on activities for children to do, including trying on a Roman toga, dressing the tailor's dummy, riding on a fairground galloper, and listening to Egbert, the Medieval stonemason. On display are objects illustrating the area's rich archaeology, from prehistoric flint tools to gold Iceni coins. Find the Roman dog's paw print and the Saxon warrior's skeleton, and the nationally important collection of Medieval pilgrim badges. Find out about Lynn's maritime and whaling past, and Lynn's explorers, including Thomas Baines, who explored South Africa and Australia. Look out for Nelson memorabilia and Captain Manby's mortar invention to rescue shipwrecked sailors. Discover Lynn's Victorian engineer Frederick Savage and his beautiful steam-driven fairground rides. Visit the Victorian ironmonger's shop and hear him explain his wares.
