Diss and the surrounding countryside were my
first introduction to Norfolk more years ago than I care to remember.
Nostalgia plays a large part for the happy memories of holidays taken
with relatives when all our children were small, young and growing up
together.
The impressive Mere, that the
market town is centred around was always a must to visit feeding the resident
ducks whilst others busied themselves in and out of the little shops browsing
here and there, keeping an eye out for yet another antique shop. Narrow
streets lead away from the triangular market place at the top of which
stands St Mary's Church.built in the 15th and 16th century, there lies
John Skelton poet and tutor to Henry VIII, who was once rector. The town
has an attractive Victorian Shambles with a wealth of Georgian and earlier
buildings where tea and coffee shops can be found lurking.
Banham Zoo along with Bressingham
Gardens are musts to visit and of course Norwich, the City itself with
its abundance of historical interest and wealth of exciting shops, where
more adventure awaits, is only a short car ride away.
I am of course, biased by now
having recently moved to live in this wonderful historical county, having
no desire to return back to my previous county of Worcestershire, I am
now here to stay.
