This romantic bolthole for two enjoys a peaceful setting, surrounded by the tranquil Norfolk countryside. The cottage is in the quaint village of Mattishall, where you'll find a handful of local shops, including a fish and chip shop, as well as a friendly pub. Quiet country lanes branch away from the village, offering fabulous walking opportunities. Nearby days out include the cathedral city of Norwich (13 miles) and the beaches of the North Norfolk coast (within 30 miles).

The former mill has been beautifully converted into a unique holiday home that's full of character and charm. Enter the property into the farmhouse-style kitchen, which has traditional wooden units, accessories, and all the equipment needed for a self-catering break. From here, move through to the cosy lounge/diner, where an array of comfortable seating sits underneath a striking, beamed ceiling. Relax here, after a long walk, watching the TV/DVD in the glow of the wood burner-effect electric fire, or sharing romantic dinners for two at the dining table. A refreshing bathroom completes the ground floor. A wooden, open-tread staircase leads to the country cottage-style double bedroom, with its quirky, curved walls, charming furniture, and pretty fabrics. Doors from the living area open onto the garden, where you'll discover outdoor furniture and a BBQ for al fresco dining.

The charming market town of Dereham is just 5 miles away. The town has a good range of independent shops and eateries, and hosts a weekly market where you can pick up delicious local produce and handmade gifts. In summer, you can board the steam trains of the Mid-Norfolk Railway here, too. The cottage is within 30 miles of the stunning North Norfolk coast, where highlights include the seal colony at Blakeney Point and the picture-postcard, sandy beach at Wells-next-the-Sea.

We loved our fortnight at this beautiful detached property surrounded by paddocks and fields on the edge of the village with resident Muntjac deer (We caught a buck and doe frolicking in the paddock one evening, pronking around each other like a pair of mad March hares!), bats, green woodpeckers, Red Kites etc. Very peaceful and pretty centralish tRead moreo all places Norfolk with Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Suffolk all close by for exploring. Quirky and characterful cottage in a quiet location. Older guests may wish to note the bathroom is located far away from the bedroom and also the absence of a proper shower.

The cottage was warm and comfortable although the sofa was probably past it's best. The handbook mentioned a torch being available in case of a bulb or fuse blowing but it was nowhere to be seen. It would have proved handy in the absence of a light on the stairs if one needs to get up in the night. WiFi is not available.

We loved our stay at The Old Mill with our springer spaniel, the outside space was ideal for him. We had a fabulous couple of nights, unfortunately my wife's car broke down, after we'd booked and we had to book it into the garage to get repaired, meaning we had to cut our break short, by one night. But the time we had was fabulous. The Old Mill was lovely to stay in. The extra things like towels, bedding, washing up liquid and hand soap made a big impact on us. The cottage was well equipped. The only downside was there is no shower. The setting was lovely and quiet, surrounded by paddocks. It was a great place for us with our dog.

Information booklet needs to be in place. Property would be better off with a shower cubicle rather than a bath or a fixed shower head over the bath. Property was quiet and in a nice location. Garden centre down the road was useful for day to day supplies and snacks when open.

What a find! Really cosy little gem! A real home from home feel. Everything is catered for. The bed was amazing! Sooo comfortable! Love where the Mill is situated, private yet not too isolated. Very peaceful. Lovely every morning to open the front door and to be greeted by the two horses in the field opposite.
