New Buckenham is a small village in South Norfolk which was originally based on a medieval 'grid pattern', which is still intact today. The large common to the east of the village is a Conservation Area. Amongst a number of 16th century houses is the Market Cross House. There are two pubs, the George and Kings Head, providing totally different atmospheres, a selection of local shops including general store with post office, organic butcher and deli. While not strictly part of New Buckenham, the remains of the castle are on the edge of the village. The area has a number of attractions including the award-winning Banham Zoo and Thetford forest which is definitely worth a visit for all ages. There is a super choice of market towns in the surrounding area. Further afield is the Suffolk Heritage Coast and the Blue Flag sandy beaches of Lowestoft.
