Fakenham is one of Norfolk's traditional country towns, which has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants and three supermarkets. It has hosted a weekly market since 1250, and although the goods provided for sale may have changed somewhat, together with the auction it still provides a very popular day out for bargain hunters! The town also has a cinema and a ten-pin bowling alley as well as a National Hunt racecourse. Fakenham is just ten miles from the sandy beach at Holkham, two miles from Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, as featured in the BBC Springwatch nature programme, and two miles from The Hawk and Owl Trust at Sculthorpe.

Just one mile from Pensthorpe, The Laurels is an attractive modern bungalow set in an individual non-estate position adjoining heathland, just a short walk from the River Wensum and a mile from the town centre. It provides pleasant well-equipped accommodation and has a spacious enclosed garden. In a central location it provides ready access to inland attractions including historic Norwich (40 minutes) and The Norfolk Broads (60 minutes). The town offers quality eateries at very reasonable prices and its proximity to the coast and surrounding countryside makes for an ideal holiday base at any time of the year.  Shop: 0.75 miles Pub: 1 mile
