Favourite Place: Salthouse
One of my favourite places to visit in Norfolk, particularly in the summer, is the picturesque village of Salthouse. It lies just north of Holt and east of Blakeney and Cley. This pretty little village overlooks the salt marshes as does the large garden of the pub - The Dun Cow. It is a great place to have a stroll along the pebble beach where the tide never goes out very far. There's usually plenty of parking and it's free!
Bird watchers come from far and wide to observe both common and rare species on the marshes. Back in the past there would have been salt pans and large piles of salt crystals ready for transport.
The village also has a very attractive church of St Nicholas which holds regular art exhibitions and concerts throughout the year.
But one of the best things about Salthouse is Cookies Crab Shop where you can either buy seafood to takeaway or enjoy one of their various seafood platters in the small but cosy cafe. They are open every day except Christmas Day and I can highly recommend the Lobster Royal Salad!
