Norwich City - Food & Drink

Belgian Monk

Belgian Monk

When visiting the trendy Norwich Lanes, a visit to the Belgian Monk must be recommended. They have a vast selection of Belgian Beer, from delicious fruit beers (cherry being a favourite) to very strong regular beers, each with a full description to tantalise your tastebuds. Speaking of tastebuds, their food is excellent too, from deliciously soft Lamb Shanks to traditional Mussels. They do special offers during the week on lunches for two people.

Franks Bar

Franks Bar

This cosy drinking den can also be regarded as a cafe and has a fantastic, extremely friendly and very chilled-out atmosphere. If you get there before midday you can enjoy their delicious breakfast menu which includes trout with a poached egg and their famous blueberry pancakes. Or visit Frank’s on a Sunday and enjoy a classic film out the back.

The Birdcage

The Birdcage

Very trendy – two words which sum up The Birdcage. The piano out the back often has someone playing while everyone else chills-out on the variety of seating including sofas and armchairs. This popular drinking venue has a good selection of cocktails, but food is limited to nibbles, cupcakes, and a selection of traditional sweets. The Birdcage, ironically, is home to a cat which likes to come and say hello to whoever he chooses.

The Bicycle Shop

The Bicycle Shop

This quirky eatery and bar, tucked away in St Benedicts Street, has fantastic food and is very good value for money. Their cheese board is highly recommended as an accompaniment to their selection of wines. It is said the decor here transports you to paris, with the atmosphere of a terraced French cafe. It looks small from the outside, but is split onto two floors with a bar on each.

El Torero

El Torero

If Spanish tapas is your thing, then why not visit El Torero. When it is busy you feel like you are in Spain as the decor is very warm and authentic. El Torero is also vegetarian-friendly with plenty of dishes available. A great place for both a romantic dinner for two, or for a group of friends to eat.
