About Norfolk Countryside
We are known as Norfolk Country Cottages...
Big skies, sweeping landscapes and picture-postcard views are lapped up from our Norfolk cottages in the countryside - the very epitome of Englishness - while our Norfolk holiday homes exude a timeless charm and extend a warm welcome to visitors all year round.
A region rich in agricultural heritage, our Norfolk countryside holiday homes are set in a landscape of small farms and quaint country markets towns, busy local stores and thriving communities where there is always time to stop for a chat, and the important news of the day is still debated over the bar at the village pub.
Our Norfolk self catering cottages in places like Aylsham, Reepham, Fakenham and Attleborough cater for every need whether you are simply passing through or spending your holiday here. And always within easy reach, the city of Norwich is home to an unrivalled range of cultural, historical and retail venues. Norwich is in fact in the top 5 shopping cities in the UK.
Choose a Norfolk countryside retreat and you will get a true sense of all that's special about the county. Grand manor houses and ancient churches punctuate the skyline while chocolate box cottages surround village greens complete with traditional duck ponds. Old traditions live on here, with summer fetes, harvest festivals and bonfire parties acknowledging the passing of the seasons. And the ever-beautiful woodlands and water meadows provide an all-year safe haven for birds and native wildlife.
The ideal destination for a relaxing cottage holiday in Norfolk's countryside, this is a place for exploration too... get off the beaten track on the network of footpaths and cycleways that follow ancient agricultural routes and redundant railway lines, or take a leisurely drive along the green lanes that preserve some of the county's loveliest rural rights of way.
Above all, our Norfolk countryside cottages provide the backdrop for doing as much or as little as you want during your self-catering break. Time may stand still here but as you prepare to return home you'll wonder where the days have gone and we guarantee youll already be planning your next stay with us!
Rural Retreats to find...
Explore 21 miles of Norfolk countryside along the old railway route of the Marriott's Way from the historic city of Norwich through the beautiful Wensum Valley, to the beautiful market towns of Reepham home to our Carlton House office and Aylsham. The perfect route for cycling and walking, it's highlighted by interesting sculptures and information boards that point out the flora and fauna to be found along the way.
Just outside the bustling Georgian town of Aylsham is 17th century Blickling Hall, a fascinating Tudor house which was once home to the Boleyn family. Blickling's blend of formal gardens, ancient woods and lakeside parkland provide a peaceful setting for summer picnics and winter walks and the estate is also home to one of Norfolk's most surprising sights, a pyramid which contains the remains of John Hobart, the second Earl of Buckinghamshire, and his two wives.
Head south-west of Norwich to Thetford Forest Park and the ancient Neolithic site of Grimes Graves. This collection of flint mines is over 4,000 years old and has a 30ft deep shaft with radiating galleries which are open to the public during the warmer months. Visit and marvel at the knowledge that our ancestors dug these mines using deer antlers!
Further north, the little village of Castle Acre is the site of a rare 11th-century Norman settlement. Located on the Peddars Way once a major trade and pilgrim route the castle contains an immense system of earthworks that overlook pretty buildings below, while Acre Priory is considered one of the largest and best preserved monastic sites in England.
